CAPE Analytics - Roof Deterioration and Hailstorms: Investigating the interplay between roof condition, age, hailstorms, and real-world roof degradation
Session III:
Innovations in geospatial analytics now allow carriers, reinsurers, brokers, and CAT modelers to leverage granular roof details, including objective condition, age, material, and shape. Now, in a first for the industry, CAPE Analytics, A Moody’s Company, has teamed up with Canopy Weather and the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety to investigate the impact of hailstorms and hail stone size on roof vulnerability by analyzing historical hail experience, roof condition over time, and roof replacements. The analysis leverages CAPE geospatial property intelligence, forensic hail analytics from Canopy Weather, and existing results from IBHS hail field research and laboratory roof testing programs. CAPE will also cover the potential benefits of this new information to CAT modeling as part of CAPE’s recently completed acquisition by Moody’s.
