Introducing Our Redesigned CAPE Commercial Property Web Application
Empowering Underwriters to Make Faster, More Efficient Risk Assessments
To make efficient and accurate risk assessments, commercial property underwriters need the right information, at the right time, available at their fingertips. CAPE’s mission has been to provide underwriters with that information via unique, AI-powered insights, accessible in ways that both support automation as well as manual reviews when human judgment is required.
To that end, CAPE has always provided multiple methods for clients to access CAPE risk insights, including a lightning-fast API, tailored batch runs, and a web application. The CAPE commercial lines web application, in particular, is purpose-built for commercial property underwriters, with innovations including Property Mapper, roof condition scoring tailored to commercial properties, and supporting COPE data (hazard, occupancy, permits) within the application.
Now, after 18 client feedback sessions, six prototypes, and over 1,000 screen mockups, we’re excited to announce the next iteration of our application with several major enhancements.
Our redesigned CAPE web application prioritizes three main goals:
- Surfacing: Supporting and accelerating exception handling alongside our automated, API-fed insights
- Streamlining: Helping underwriters get to the right answer as quickly as possible, rather than bogging them down
- Scrutinizing: Easy access to the most granular data for in-depth verification
By providing underwriters with the right information at the right time within a web interface, underwriters can focus on confidently crafting tailored policies that meet the specific needs of each commercial property, resulting in a more streamlined and effective insurance process overall.
Arming You With Deeper Insights
We’ve introduced roof condition reason codes within the application so that underwriters can quickly determine why the CAPE model has determined a roof to be in its stated condition. These reason codes appear next to Roof Condition Rating and include the following:
- Tarps
- Material Degradation (with additional severity levels)
- Loose Organic Matter
- Ponding
- Patching
- Streaking
- Natural Discoloration (with additional severity levels)
- Rusting
- Missing/Peeling Material
- Sealing
- Irregular Discoloration
Advanced Property Mapping and Editing Tools
CAPE Property Mapper is an automated, AI-enhanced tool that intelligently maps properties using predefined rules, and provides accurate boundaries for risks such as condo complexes or office parks when parcel and address boundary information is fragmented or conflicting. Additionally, we’ve created a shape-editing tool for fine-tuning boundaries, giving users control and flexibility for irregular or complex properties. Users can now also add multiple addresses for complex properties, making it easier to manage and assess large or multi-location properties.
Providing Enhanced Interaction and Navigation
Our redesigned application aims to make interactions smoother, so users don’t have to flip through multiple screens. We’ve introduced shortcuts, such as the new Priority tab, which is a feed that highlights concerning property features, such as roof condition or lot debris. Those features can be customized for each client, based on those that impact eligibility, rate, or other business needs.
In addition, the web app’s dynamic map now automatically zooms into a building of interest any time a user clicks into structure-specific details, whether looking at items within the Priority tab or clicking into Roof Condition details.
An Improved User Interface (UI)
To make important information more accessible, we’ve added sections such as our “roof issues” panel and featured it prominently within the UI. We’ve also made it more obvious that users can access detailed, structure-level data by creating expandable rows for each building. This ensures vital information is easy to access.
Additional Changes
Previously more focused on raw data, our application now offers new ways of interpreting and displaying data, so users can get a quick overview or dive deeper as required. For example, roof condition reason codes are displayed in the user interface and users can visually verify roof issues on the imagery itself by toggling condition overlays on or off.
We’ve also improved how users access historical imagery, providing indicators of the views available for specific dates
Finally, we’ve improved visual readability, content hierarchy, and color contrast to make our application more accessible. We’ve carefully chosen color hues and tones for roof condition ratings to be more distinct and to ensure text remains readable at all times.
On a Mission to Empower Underwriters
Our redesigned commercial property web application is built to empower underwriters, making risk assessments easier, more accurate, and more efficient. By striking the right balance between automation and human intervention, commercial property underwriters and carriers can optimize their operations, drive better decision-making, and ultimately achieve greater success in managing risks and maximizing profitability.
With these updates, we’re confident that our users will enjoy a smoother, more productive experience—and we have many more updates planned. We welcome your feedback and look forward to continually enhancing our application to better serve your needs.
